A New Radiation Center
Leaving Central New York for quality cancer care is now a thing of the past. The brand-new Dorothy G. Griffin Radiation Oncology Center is a 6,000 sq. ft medical center featuring modern exam rooms, a CT scanner and a TrueBeam linear accelerator for radiation therapy as well as support facilities for Roswell Park physicians and team members. The collaboration was made possible by $6.75 million grant from the New York State Department of Health plus $2.3 million from private donors – over $9 million in cancer investments.

When you are faced with a cancer diagnosis, the commute to and from treatment can be a serious hurdle in the marathon toward better health. That’s why having a state-of-the-art facility so close to home is such a game-changer in the cancer care journey.
Radiation Treatment Technologies
Our new facility provides our patients with access to the latest state-of-the-art technology including CT Simulation and the TrueBeam® Radiotherapy System. Radiation treatment uses high-energy radiation to kill or destroy cancer cells. The goal of radiation treatment is to carefully target cancerous cells, while sparing nearby normal tissues and organs. We take a significant amount of care and attention in the treatment planning process to accomplish this goal.
CT Simulation assists in determining the exact location, shape, and size of the tumor to be treated. The TrueBeam® Radiotherapy System is used to treat cancer anywhere in the body where radiation treatment is indicated, including lung, breast, prostate, and head and neck, as well as most other cancers.
This technology includes imaging capabilities that enable fine-tuning of patient positioning immediately prior to delivering treatment. This is critical as it allows treatments to be delivered precisely to the tumor target, while sparing normal tissue near the tumor. Achieving this goal helps to minimize potential side effects associated with radiation therapy treatment. Our goal is to treat your cancer effectively, while providing you with the best quality of life after your treatment.
